about

'Love it!...A bit of Leonard Cohen,...Nick Cave,...Tom Waits,...Chris Isaak....Everything about this enterprise is terrific, apart from the fact they're called davesnewbike!' – Mark Radcliffe, BBC 6Music

‘One of those albums that draws the listener in over repeated plays...an attractive mix of European cool and street level Scots poesy.’ – Paul Kerr, Blabber’n’Smoke

'a strong narrative backbone...compositions sound fresh and inventive' – Blair Hutton, The Fountain Review

*** 'intelligent songs, quirky, upbeat arrangements' – Ian Taylor, RnR Magazine

A more ambitious collection than "wanderlust", their 2015 debut, the reference points for the bike's second album range from folk, country, rock and punk, through to tangos, psychedelia and beyond, all cohering around the distinctive, compelling songs of Tom Houston. The lead single, "The Cobbler" is a palette-refreshing combination of smart wordplay and raw, swinging, guitar-pop which will put 'soul into your boots'. Other highlights include the sultry title track and "Candy Floss", an almost-mellow meditation on memory in the age of smart phones. The rich textures of the 11 song set are further enhanced by a number of guests, most notably Mary Erskine (aka Me For Queen) who adds cello and duets with Tom on "Devils We Are".
